The Power Source

Last year, in the midst of the load shedding struggle, I had an aha moment. My phone was plugged into my laptop to charge, and as it was gaining battery power, my laptop’s battery was draining in the process. It was a losing battle, unless the laptop was plugged into its own power source. The energy exchange was unsustainable.

It then struck me how similar this is to life. How often do we pour into others, offering them our energy, time, and care, without first making sure we’re replenished ourselves? Like my laptop, we can only give for so long before we’re completely drained. The truth is, without a power source of our own, we’re of no use to anyone, not even ourselves.

So, what’s your power source? The more holistic, the better. At Lunar Core we like to think of it as three layers of energy to recharge: something for the mind, something for the body, and something for the soul.

For the Mind:

Our minds are constantly plugged in, processing information, solving problems, and adapting to life’s demands. To recharge, we need moments of calm or mental stimulation that feed us, not drain us. This could mean journaling your thoughts, repeating positive affirmations, reading an inspiring book, listening to a high vibration podcast, or even learning something new that excites you. A well-fed mind is a clearer, sharper mind.

For the Body:

We live in our bodies, yet so many of us ignore the signals they give us like tiredness, fatigue, tension, or the need for movement. Recharging here could look like physical activity (yes, Pilates is always a good idea), prioritizing rest, a good skin care routine, or nourishing yourself with food that fuels you. Taking care of your body is the foundation for everything else.

For the Soul:

This is where the deepest connection lies. Your soul’s power source might be time spent in quiet meditation, prayer, connecting with loved ones and community, or stepping into nature. It’s anything that aligns you with what truly matters, giving you a sense of peace, awe and renewal.

When you’re connected to a power source that sustains your mind, body, and soul, you’re not just surviving, you’re thriving. You can show up fully for yourself and others, knowing you’re operating from a place of abundance, not depletion.

So, the next time you’re tempted to give, please pause and check your energy first. Are you plugged into your power source? Are you caring for yourself holistically? If not, take a moment. Recharge. Because no one can pour from an empty cup...or charge a phone from a dead laptop.
